Music Conductor Jobs Profile in Canada
Music Conductors direct musicians in the performance of musical scores. They may be employed to lead orchestras, operas, choirs and bands.

The most important priority for Music Conductors is to establish how a piece of music should be played and then to educate and guide a band of musicians to play the piece in unison, accordingly.

Music Conductors may be responsible for up to 80 musicians in the example of a symphony orchestra. Each group of instruments, such as violins or clarinets, has a different role in the piece of music and will depend on the cues of the Musical Conductor to integrate successfully in the performance. The Music Conductor determines the beat, volume, tone and timing.

Music Conductors may lead orchestras during the performances of operas, theatre plays or ballet. They may also lead marching bands, dance or jazz bands.

To gain a foothold in this industry, prospective Music Conductors require formal training in at least one musical instrument in addition to reliable knowledge of music theory, analysis, composition, notation and sightreading. There are conducting programs at some music conservatories and universities and there are international opportunities for particularly talented Music Conductors.
